Answering Your Water Pump Questions
with RPS Engineer Mike
Why is it so expensive to replace a water pump?
If you’ve ever gotten a quote for a water pump replacement, sticker shock can be an issue if it’s your first time. Prices across the U.S. vary, but for an all-inclusive price of labor and materials you could be looking at the high four or even five figure range if your well is particularly deep. At RPS, our philosophy is to cut out the middleman where we can, give you the materials and confidence to work on the job yourself, and provide you with the technical expertise both pre and post sale to ensure it’s a job well done.
But what does that entail, and what prices should you still expect to see with us? A typical customer could see an ad or browse our website (you may notice that our prices are easily found), complete our sizing form, and receive a quote all in one day. That quote would include a base package of a pump end and motor with starter box, as well as customizable accessories like polypipe, wire, a well seal, and other odds and ends. The prices would be clearly laid out, and most of our quotes end up being under or just over $1,000 without add-ons.
Now every once in a while we get somebody who’s looked through Amazon or Craigslist and tells us they can get a brand new stainless steel pump for something like $50. Usually those folks come back after a month or two and buy the real thing, but if you have more questions about what to look for take a look at our buyer’s guides. There are plenty of companies that sell a cheap product, rack up a bunch of bad reviews, and then change their business name and sell the same thing over and over again. On the other hand, there are a handful of large European corporations that have cornered the installer market, pushing their pumps to their people, who in turn markup those prices for the average Joe like you.
On our hand we do our best to stay affordable, while not skimping on quality. All of our pumps are standard 304 Stainless Steel, with 2-year warranties where any product damage due to manufacturer error is replaced free of charge. We also offer lifetime support; if you call us in ten years with questions about your pump, we’ll be able to chat through your questions and troubleshoot with you. Pricing for us takes into account the high quality of our materials, but also the knowledge that we hope to continue serving you as U.S. based specialists for the next 20+ years whenever you make a purchase.
If you do end up working with us and receiving a quote, keep in mind that we are quick to adjust quantities or types of materials if there’s a particular end price you’d like to see. If you decide you want to buy accessories at your local big box or hardware store, be our guest (though we think the time saved by purchasing our One-and-Done Kits is well worth the price). What’s important is that we are on the same page about quality of workmanship, as well as what all you will receive with your purchase. Our goal is to instill confidence in our DIY minded customers, just like we have for these fine folks.
Call us at (855)-560-5670 or email us at help@ruralpowersystems.com and we can keep chatting through your pricing questions. Our specialists go at your pace and convenience, with no pressure to make a purchase right then and there. We look forward to talking with you!
