How much is labor to replace a well pump?

How much is labor to replace a well pump?

In the world of well-pumping, labor prices have to take into account a whole range of factors: drive time, expertise, and the potential for things to change or go wrong. Sometimes, though, well drillers have little to no competition in their area and can set their pricing well-above what most would consider fair. That may end up costing you hundreds of dollars an hour, or thousands of dollars for a fairly simple well replacement. That’s why it’s important to chat through your specific problem with a specialist and see if you actually have the capacity to DIY your well pump replacement.

In my time at RPS, I’ve heard of well technician rates going anywhere from $45-$200 an hour, not including the markup that gets put on the cost of materials. Parts and labor included you’re looking at $1,700-$1,800 as the going rate for a standard well pump replacement. That doesn’t take into account the variations inherent in the season or area of the U.S. It also doesn’t take into account that well techs are often booked out months in advance. And don’t even get me started on the added cost of materials like wire, piping or pressure systems if any of these parts need to be replaced as well.

If you’re looking at labor costs and thinking it’s just not worth it, we agree with you! In general the savvy home or property owner would have all the tools and skills necessary to complete up to a 300-400’ well install. Past that it becomes a case by case basis, but that 400’ measure is inclusive of a large portion of American wells. We feel confident in saying that with our guidance you’d have the backup you need to complete the problems you’d face. Our pumps are sold as affordably as possible; these 304 stainless steel centrifugal-style models have been field tested by thousands of users and they don’t let our customers down. If you’re still not sure, take a look through our extensive number of reviewers that got the job done after RPS consultation.

The reality is, no one can tell you how valuable your labor is other than yourself. No one knows your skill sets like yourself either, though I find many of our customers underestimate themselves. If you’ve found us online, then you may be the type of person who tries to do things affordably and to a high quality. That type of customer is our bread and butter. DIY folks who are willing to try something new when given the opportunity are exactly who our pump kits are designed for. You may think installing is difficult, but we beg to differ, and once you flip through our 48-page, full-color manual we think you’d agree with us. If you can save hundreds of dollars in labor costs doing what is essentially an afternoon’s amount of work, why wouldn’t you?

If this feels too good to be true, give us a call at (855)-560-5670 or email us at help@ruralpowersystems.com. We’ve walked through the pump install process with many a customer who were on the fence about the whole thing, and we’ve shown them that they do in fact have the capabilities to install by themselves. If you’re trying to cut out the middleman and save some money, we’re right there with you, so let’s help each other out!
